Frequently asked questions

CoachOutreach is an iPhone app that lets athletes email college coaches from their own Gmail and see which coaches opened the email and clicked their links.

The basics

Is CoachOutreach free?

Yes, to start. The Free plan is $0: download the iPhone app, browse the college coach database, and build lists of schools and coaches. To email coaches and see who opened, you need Recruit ($25 a month or $250 a year) or Commit ($50 a month or $500 a year), and Commit starts with a 7-day free trial.

Does it send from my own email?

Yes. You connect your Gmail account, and every email is sent from that address through Google's Gmail API. Coaches see your name and your real Gmail address, not a bulk sender or a no-reply address, and their replies land in your own inbox.

Can coaches tell it's a tool?

The email looks like any other email from your Gmail: it goes to one coach at a time, with your words and your signature, and CoachOutreach doesn't add its name, a logo, or a footer. Like most email tracking, it adds a tiny invisible image to record opens and routes your links through a coachoutreach.com link to record clicks, so a coach who hovers over a link could see that address. Coaches are never notified that an email is tracked.

What does "know who's reading" mean?

It means you can see which coaches opened your email, how many times, and which of your links they clicked, such as your highlight video or tournament schedule. It can't tell you how long a coach spent reading or what they did after clicking. Some email apps and security filters open emails or check links automatically, so CoachOutreach screens out activity that looks automated, but treat an open as a strong signal, not a guarantee.

Can parents use it with their athlete?

Yes. On Recruit and Commit, the athlete can invite up to five family members to their account. Parents can help find coaches, build school lists, and see which coaches opened emails and clicked links. Emails still send from the athlete's own Gmail, so coaches hear from the athlete.

Which sports does it cover?

All 38 NCAA-sponsored sports plus emerging sports, for men's and women's programs at NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA, and junior college (JUCO) schools. You can filter the College Explorer by sport, division, state, and distance from home.

How do club plans work?

A travel club buys a pool of seats for its athletes: 15 seats from $599 a month, 30 from $1,099, or 50 from $1,749, with 10% off annual billing. Each seated athlete gets their own account with Commit features, and club directors and staff can switch into an athlete's account to help research schools and email coaches. Plans include 2, 4, or 6 staff seats; details are at https://www.coachoutreach.com/clubs.

Using CoachOutreach

What is CoachOutreach?

CoachOutreach is an iPhone app that lets athletes email college coaches from their own Gmail and see which coaches opened the email and clicked their links. It includes a database of college coaches, so you can find the right coaches, write one email, and send it to each of them individually.

Who is CoachOutreach for?

High school athletes who want to get recruited, the parents helping them, and travel club directors who manage recruiting for a whole roster.

Where do the coach emails come from?

We collect coaches from official athletic department staff directories and verify each address. The database is refreshed regularly, so when a coach changes schools, you see it.

Plans and billing

Is there a free trial?

Yes. The Commit plan starts with a 7-day free trial. We collect a card up front, but you won't be charged until the trial ends, and you can cancel anytime before then. Recruit is billed immediately.

What counts as an email against my monthly limit?

Each individual coach you send to counts as one email. Opens and clicks don't count. Recruit includes 200 emails per month, and Commit is unlimited.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Plans are month-to-month or annual. Cancel anytime and you keep access through the end of your billing period, and your schools and coaches stay saved if you come back.

For clubs

Does the club admin use an athlete seat?

No. The 15, 30, or 50 seats are for athletes. Each plan also includes staff seats (2, 4, or 6), and the person who pays counts as one staff seat.

What if an athlete already pays for CoachOutreach?

If they subscribed on the web, we cancel that personal subscription when they accept the club invite so they aren't charged twice. If they subscribed in the App Store, they should cancel it in the App Store after accepting.

Can seated athletes still invite family?

Yes. Family access (up to five people on an athlete's account) is separate from club seats.
